New Year’s Eve

Clairvoyance continued to elude us almost precisely a year ago,
When the clock struck midnight,
The ball dropped, we kissed our loved ones, and toasted with champagne,
And our hearts whispered our wishes for the coming year.
Then the cycle begins anew,
Teaches us the lessons we never knew we needed,
Introduces us to people we never expected,
And gave us the experiences we never aspired to.
And every year, when we reach this day again,
We’re nowhere close to where we planned to be,
And exactly where we needed to be,
A world away from who we were.
When we look in the mirror tonight,
Amidst preparation for our festivities,
And cannot recognize the face from a year prior,
We know the pain of growth wasn’t for nothing.
While one can never outrun their past,
Nor can they ever truly walk away from who they are,
The stroke of midnight brings renewal and hope.
How lucky are we to begin the new year with a fresh slate?
Closing one chapter and beginning another is a powerful reminder:
Our failures are never permanent,
There is always a better and brighter tomorrow to reach for,
And this life is worth all of the trials and tribulations.
So, the time has come to sing Auld Lang Syne at midnight once more,
Take a breath, turn the page, dip a pen in the inkwell,
And write the first words of a fresh, new chapter.
Happy New Year everyone.
