My grasp on the world is the knife’s edge,
A mind untethered in time,
Living in a loop of misery,
Begging to change a past etched in stone.
Old ghosts thought buried return in the darkness,
Shadows in broad daylight ravage my soul.
I clutch for a dream forever denied
Because that’s what drowning men do.
The mind continues to contemplate without conscious input.
I will travel elsewhere by design,
Yet find myself back on a train of thought from which I already disembarked.
I hate obsession.
This is why I am push my mind to its breaking point,
As if shattering my soul will throw off my chains.
It’s more than just being in control of everything,
It’s raw adrenaline, fighting nature,
Blurring the boundary between.
Not even breaking the sound barrier could let me escape.
A heart of stone cannot bleed.
To become something so callous and cold,
An indestructible, inhuman machine created to cause devastation.
Sometimes being a monster would be easier than this.
Maybe it’s just desiring power in my weakest moments,
All reasons as to why I should never have it.
Trying to feed my wanting heart
With that which only produces greater hunger,
Struggling to value a life which feels like a zero sum,
Casting myself into the fire
Just to provide someone some warmth and illumination.
I’ll just have to ride out the storm this time,
Certain that I’ll get past this,
Even as I question if I even want to,
Knowing the real answer makes this a futile effort.
