Observations on a Halloween night many years ago.
Shades of tree branches sway,
Dancing against the window.
They ripple in the wind,
Clawing at my soul.
Unread books pile higher and higher
Idleness of the mind dulls its bite.
The iron of my own indecision
Grows into tougher steel.
I try to scream.
I will scream.
But not with leaded tongue.
Not with breathless voice.
I am unbroken, for now.
But my crosses will crush me.
The storm is the only answer.
Perfection in its abject destruction
For new trees to grow,
The old must be ripped away.
